5 Must Do Things in Negril, Jamaica

So, you’re going to Negril?
I’ve been there a few times myself and highly recommend this list of must-see stops to make!

1. Barneys Hummingbird Garden (West End, Negril, Jamaica) This place is a little gem nestled just off the coast way up on the West End near the Lighthouse area so you’ll want to book a taxi. We had THE BEST time here! Walk through the gates and it’s like a scene right out of the Secret Garden. Beautiful long-tailed hummingbirds literally come up to you and feed right out of your hand. We even watched one taking a bath in the sprinkler! The odd art and beautiful flowers throughout the property are simply stunning

2. XTabi resort. You can stay here or just come for a day visit. Nestled on the cliffs, it’s pretty secluded really. You can cliff dive on your own or walk down the ladder like I do because I’m terrified of heights. lol Good thing is, they have cliffs AND caves!

3. Find Captain Billy (those glass bottom boat tour people) on the beach and book a day trip to Booby Cay Island. Yep, you’ll be leaving the island to visit another island. A boat picks you up on the beach of your hotel and takes you for a lobster lunch on a smaller island. They cook the lobster right there and you dine on the beach. And by dine I mean bring a towel to sit on… there are no tables. Actually, there might be one picnic table but many boat captains bring their fares there so don’t count on it.

4. Drifters Bar. Luddy Sams (of the famous group The Drifters) is the owner of this bar on the beach. This is a must stop for us every single year in Negril. They serve alcohol and food and they even have restrooms. Check with your hotel for which days Drifters is having a jam session and visit during one of those!

5. Volunteer at the St Anthony Kitchen! You’ll be happy you did! We’ve done this a couple years in a row now and make it a point to include it in our yearly trip itinerary. They serve children breakfast daily (super early in the morning) and adults later in the morning. I recommend both, if you can swing it.
